SPREADING INNOVATIVE RESEARCH ACROSS CAMPUS

What is the Heinz Journal and what do I do?

The Heinz Journal is an academic publication which publishes public policy research with a focus on featuring current work from Heinz College students. I typically typeset four to six research papers per issue and illustrate the cover based on featured articles or overall issue themes.

This issue revolved around the idea of place—gentrification, geographical disputes, and discriminatory practices among landlords were some of the topics covered. Therefore, the cover played with different representations of maps.

This issue cover highlighted an article by Jordan Fields (pictured far left) on workplace discrimination based on black hair. I worked closely with Jordan to make sure this cover represented her perspective accurately.

NEXT STEPS

Creating a larger system for the Heinz Journal.

Working with the editing team and advisor Silvia Borzutzky (Teaching Professor of Political Science and International Relations,) I am in the process of making an updated logo system and website to digitize these journals and make them more accessible to the public.
